Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

We demand a future
for all of us.
We know that power is never conceded, so we must roll up our sleeves and organize like hell to protect the lives and dignity of our jotería, our families, our lovers and all of our communities.
Familia: Trans Queer Liberation Movement & Mijente Support Committee are launching #VotaJota, a digital voter registration campaign because we believe that queer Latinx peoples can make an impact on this election.

1. Abolish ICE and the Police
Instead of wasting money on systems that oppress and terrorize our communities, that money should go towards funding community-controlled relief responses and health initiatives.
2. Universal Basic Income
Every single person regardless of their immigration status or whether they’ve paid taxes should be immediately given an equitable universal basic income. This is especially important as Black trans adults have a 40% poverty rate and Latinx trans adults have a 45% rate, per the Williams Institute, making these groups more vulnerable to being impacted through a pandemic, epidemic or public crisis.
3. Universal Healthcare for All
Every single person regardless of their immigration status or whether they’ve paid taxes should be immediately given an equitable universal basic income. This is especially important as Black trans adults have a 40% poverty rate and Latinx trans adults have a 45% rate, per the Williams Institute, making these groups more vulnerable to being impacted through a pandemic, epidemic or public crisis.
4. Housing is a human right
It means suspending all rent and mortgage payments, banning evictions, including in public housing. And it certainly means giving safe, good quality housing to our houseless communities, which include our Black, trans, queer, Latinx, immigrant communities.
5. End the criminalization of trans-queer workers
Sexworkers, drag performance workers, bartenders, restaurant workers, retail and service workers, domestic workers, day laborers, grocery workers, medical care providers and other trans-queer workers are navigating queer survival economies. We are workers who deserve a living wage, hazard pay, safe working conditions, access to benefits, and legal protections.
Why these demands?
These demands are grounded in solidarity with the most vulnerable in our communities, including trans and queer Latinx, Black, and immigrant people because we know that when we fight for those most marginalized, we fight for all of us.
It means we end all oppressive systems that harm trans-queer people of color: White supremacy, anti-Blackness, xenophobia, Islamophobia, capitalism, transphobia, hetero-patriarchy, misogyny, imperialism, ableism, and the systems that desecrate the earth.
Two key foundational points
1. We are on stolen Indigenous lands and support Indigenous people and communities in their struggle to “assume their rightful place as independent Nations guaranteed with the fundamental right to self-determination for their people, communities, land bases, and political and economic systems,” as included in the Red Nation’s 10 Point Program, which we recommend you read through thoroughly.
2. The US and the world continues to benefit from anti-Blackness and the brutal legacy of chattel slavery. We support the US-based and worldwide struggle to obtain reparations.
